I have asked a lot of questions here and I'm so glad you answered them all. Your blog's really informative. And I love the fact that you love nature. I'm curious; Do you read Paulo Coelho novels?
Thanks for reading my blog and being so interactive ;) I haven’t read Paulo Coelho…. okay wait I just Googled him. I have read The Alchemist several years ago but I forgot about it— I don’t think I enjoyed it very much hehehe :P
I do read a lot though. The two books that turned my life around in relation to health and food stuff would be:
The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan
The Universe Is A Green Dragon by Brian Swimme
What online stores sell affordable organic moisturizing lotion? Thanks.
Hi! I’m sorry I haven’t shopped online in a while so I can’t vouch for the shopping experience— but established brands Ilog Maria and Human Nature both sell online. Ilog Maria is known for the purity of their products; I like the scents of the Human Nature lotions :) especially the goat’s milk one, parang it makes you smell like ice cream heehee ;)
Both brands are affordable.
hi! how do you cook the malunggay-maize soup? what type of soup base do you use or you just boil everything with water and salt? thanks! love your blog! ;)
Hello! I’ll ask our superchefyayachauffer and get back to you on the exact details tomorrow :D but definitely no soup base, it’s just salt and water. The maize in combination with the kalabasa and kamote bits help to sweeten the flavor.
Thanks so much! :D
I'm curious to know how do you apply the VCO? If the VCO is solid at room temp, do you just rub a cotton ball in it and then over your face? And if I use it at night/before I sleep, wouldn't it get all over my pillow case/sheets? D:
Hello theresh0pe from LJ :D
Here in Manila it’s liquid at room temperature hahaha :P if it’s solid where you are, I guess rub with your (very very clean!) finger and make it melt a little on your fingertip before you apply it. Like lip balm. If you can manage to make it melt first you can also use a cotton ball.
If you’re just using it on your face, if you sleep on your back (I do) it’s not a problem. However I must say I’ve stopped using VCO on my face so liberally; I have combination-type skin and I’m prone to pimples so I try to put as close to nothing on my face these days. Try and see what works for you— you can also just apply VCO about an hour before you sleep, and wipe or wash it off before sleeping. :)
As for getting it all over the sheets, yup when I was using it on my arms and legs too it did, but it didn’t really bother me— as I’ve said, the local temperature here is warm so it evaporates from the fabric quickly and I don’t mind the scent… just be wary of ants. I didn’t get any ants, but my grandma said she tried VCO and she got ants on her bed.
Right now with my hypoallergenic lifestyle as prescribed by my doctor I’m no longer using anything on my skin except Cetaphil for washing plus the prescribed ointments for the (healed) rashes. Once I’ve fully healed in about a month or so I can probably slowly start using VCO & TTO again :)
Have you tried Human Nature's products? Are they good? And are they really organic? Thanks.
Yes I’ve used them quite a lot; I like the facial scrub, the lotions, and the intensive hair conditioning treatment in particular; and I’ve written questions and answers about the “purity” of their “organic” products here :)
Was not expecting this! My doctor had me on hypoallergenic diet. I placed myself on an even stricter one (malunggay soup 3x day, for at least 7 days, and fresh fruits— that’s it) hoping to give myself a supervitamin boost + detox to help my body heal. I didn’t think I’d lose weight because I wasn’t exercising at all! Was just staying at home, part of the whole hypoallergenic lifestyle thing… And I was never hungry, actually, I always felt good and full after every meal. Hearty malunggay soup = yummy comfort food. The fruits helped fill up my tummy too.
Anyway, so I’m healing very well, yay :D I just got surprised when I weighed myself today. Also, my old shorts fit me again LOL :)) I expect to gain back some of the weight I lost when I get back to my regular exercise and foodz.
Doctor says I can eat peanut butter and white fish meat starting today :) We’ll re-introduce the “bawal” foodz back into my diet very gradually.
Meanwhile, so, yeah, I recommend this malunggay soup diet for anyone who wants a supervitamin boost + detox. You just get the weight loss / tummy flab reduction / fitting into jeans and shorts again as a nice bonus side effect :D If prepared properly, the soup is very yummy and filling. Also, the fruits make awesome munchies. Malunggay and papaya are both great alternative sources of calcium (I’m still not allowed dairy).
But— it would be great to have the malunggay soup as breakfast or dinner forever :D
I guess the key to any “diet” is to make sure the food meets these criteria:
1. Healthy - so you don’t suffer malnutrition from dieting
2. Yummy - so you enjoy eating!
3. Filling - so you don’t crave for other foods; it’s bad to go hungry
4. Accessible - cheap/affordable and available near you so it’s easy to get
I think I saw you on Kapuso mo jessica, or mel and joey (I forgot what program). Was that you? And why were you there? What was the topic of the show? (I just saw you. I didn't really have had the time to watch it.)
Hehe! I was on GMA news (Saksi) a couple of weeks ago… just taste-testing chocolates in Chocolate Fire. It was only like ten seconds :D aside from that nope I haven’t been on TV! :)
A list of things I will do once I'm healed completely!
2. Jump rope!
4. Wear short skirts!
5. Smile lots and appreciate my skin and take good care of it!
6. Eat chocolateeeee omnomnomnom
7. Go out and see my friends!
8. EAT SEAFOOD!!! Omg I have missed seafood so much :c
Day 7 of malunggay soup diet.
Day 5 of new derma.
FINALLY I HAZ PROTEIN! I ended my 7th day of malunggay soup diet with a really awesome kalabaw meat dinner!!! The kalabaw meat is from Davao. My tito happens to go there on business so I was lucky to get some from him.
My left eye area is no longer swollen. Also, continuing improvement on my lesions. Also, less and less itchiness every night. Yay! :) My derma appointment yesterday great. She told me she was happy to see my improvement and to continue my prescribed medicines. She also asked me to just use Cetaphil for shampoo/conditioner. New medicines prescribed for the swelling, and to reduce the extremely thickened skin on some lesions.
I was also told to use the Bactroban ointment instead of cream on my face (because the lesions dried already). But when I tried that yesterday it was super itchy =\ I washed it off right away and went back to the cream. It’s Sunday today so I’ll just call her tomorrow and ask.
New medicines (topical):
Denoside (corticosteroid cream) for the swelling around eye area
Diprosalic (betamethasone salicylic acid ointment) to reduce the thickened skin on some lesions
Lidex has been working okay so I’ve proceeded with the prescribed dose. Also, I’ve been putting it on my elbows (minor rashes there) and noticed that my skin there got really soft and smooth :P corticosteroids have a skin-thinning effect…
Hi again. Thanks for the prompt response to my comment on HN mineral makeup. I have not yet sent my feedback to Human Nature, but I intend to send an e-mail this coming week. I wont use the foundation and lipstick anymore, I'll just stick to the colorless lip balm, which is free from minerals. Do you know of a lipstick sold locally that is natural but devoid of nanoparticles? Or should I just use conventional lipstick once in a while? Thanks in advance. :)
Unfortunately I don’t know of any such lipstick. And I think regular lipstick once in a while can’t hurt? :) After all “the difference between medicine and poison is dosage” ;) thanks again for the feedback!
Hello. I just read your blog regarding the use of micronized particles/nanoparticles in the Human Nature mineral makeup line. I have been using the product for about two months. I notice that after about a week of using the tinted lip balm, I felt that there are grain-like particles in my throat that eventually resulted in a cough that persisted for about a week. The cough eventually disappeared but when I started to use the HN mineral lipstick, and foundation, I had cough again.
Hi, thanks so much for your feedback! Ohnoez :c sounds like a clear message from your body to stay away from that :c have you emailed this feedback to Human Nature? Also did you try consulting your doctor for the cough? I hope you are well now! Stay healthy :)
Even in babies with skin allergies, doctors usually prescribe cetaphil and the more expensive one, physiogel , for head to toes. Try dove shampoo too after your treatment. It's also mild for the skin. Well, that's my derma's advice. Pureology is also okay but very expensive. It's available in beauty salons like Profile along Katipunan.
I’ve heard about Physiogel from my friend too :) my derma also mentioned she uses Dove on her hair— pero yung soap daw. For right now she just told me to continue with what I’m using (just Cetaphil) until I’m completely recovered + for one month afterwards :)
Do you use any special type of shampoo or conditioner? I heard you can skin problems using ones with harsh chemicals...
Right now my derma just told me to use Cetaphil for shampoo! And no conditioner. Hahahaha! It’s kinda crazy. I can’t wait to finish my hypoallergenic diet / routine. :P
Before I got sick I was using organic shampoo/conditioner (Human Nature, Ilog Maria, Zen, Gugo, etc.). Prior to that I was just using regular ones like Palmolive and Pantene. And I’m sorry to say this but— I still haven’t come across an organic shampoo/conditioner that works as well for my hair as the regular ones. =\
Great food! Try organic arugula (from Sibol) salad with olives, tomatoes, walnuts and olive oil plus balsamic vinegar for dressing and a dash of pepper. Feta or Edam cheese makes it more delicious too unless you abhor dairy products. What about grapefruit juice? Or, red wine if you want something new (Chilean or Shiraz) You'll love it!
Nice! Let’s see if I can find some organic arugula :) Doctor told me to stay away from dairy from now. But I will try it in the future with carabao kesong puti.
I have ridiculously low alcohol tolerance and can only drink sangria :D
Wow! You must be very skinny by now. Should influence all fat members in the family. He he
I haven’t really noticed any difference with my body weight/shape! :P I’m also very sedentary right now because I just stay at home while taking my prescribed medicines and being very gentle with my skin.
Malunggay soup diet is great. My tummy has never felt better. (:
Day 12 of mainstream medicine.
Day 5 of malunggay soup diet.
Day 3 of new derma.
So after cautiously trying the steroid ointment 1x a day yesterday and the other day, I think I’m okay with it. I’ll start with the 3x a day prescribed to me, starting today. My final saline solution compress was last night.
My skin looks a teensy bit better than yesterday. Hope this continues!
What I’ve been ingesting:
- malunggay soup (malunggay with corn/carrot/tomato/squash OR tomato/okra/squash/calamansi)
- fresh papaya
- fresh buko (juice and meat)
- fresh banana
- boiled kamote
- fresh dalandan juice
…though I did have taro chips and pandesal. Once. :)
I know you don't drink cow's milk. But do you eat milk chocolates? In case I might give one to you in the future. <3, Female secret admirer
Heehee ang sweet naman!!! ;) I have been known to indulge in milk chocolates occasionally. Can’t resist! But I really prefer dark chocolate or native tablea chocolate :D same chocolatey goodness without the resulting zits!
all hail the power of tea tree oil! wishing you the best :)
do they sell online? tea trea oil from body shop is effective but expensive..
also, do you know any natural ways of getting rid of pimple scars?
thanks so much for your time :)
Thanks! :D Giga doesn’t sell online but some of their resellers might? Yeah body shop is expensive! Giga na lang :D the big bottles are in their main branch but the small 15ml bottles can be found at Fort as well (echostore serendra / sesou marketmarket) or other places where Giga products are sold. :) Pero madalas out of stock!
As for pimple scars, sorry, I only know time will heal them eventually :c I just wait for my scars to heal too. It really takes a long time for me (about a year for big scars).
EDIT: LOL. It’s just so… massive! :)) So… If you want your own giant 500ml or supergiant 1liter bottle of tea tree oil you can head to the GIGA main branch at Tiendesitas and place an order. It’s P2,500 or P4,900, respectively. Totally worth it if your skin drinks the stuff like mine does. (Their tiny 15ml bottles cost about P120.)
It's okay to date with pimples. Not contagious anyway. That' will test your date if he's a man of substance or whatever:-)
LOL :)) never mind pimples. I know how to handle those. My skin problem is worse + it’s contagious. I want to have a fancy dinner out but that will have to wait til I am better. Hehehe :) thanks though!
In my experience, I usually purge (meaning all the blemishes surface) right before I heal completely. Maybe that's why your condition seems to have gotten worse.
Also, it would be best if you do not deprive yourself. Eat as you normally would, since you eat healthy anyway. Make your body happy. :)
Before I went to the doctor, I spent three months trying to heal my body with good healthy food + natural herbal remedies. It didn’t get worse but I wasn’t cured! That’s the only reason I finally went the doctor and followed the prescription for antibiotics/steroids… and now my body got mad =\ kinda unreasonable pfft! Parang nagtatampo or something. I’m really rather weirded out and willing to go for a stricter “diet” at this point in time =\
Yeah I hope it’s a case of “it gets worse before it gets better”. Thanks! :)
Yes, proper diet will help. Lots of water! If it's pimples around your face near the hair area, it be could be allergy to shampoo/conditioner. It took me two weeks to cure my pimples (due to severe stress plus allergy to shampoo) but only with injectable steroids, topical solutions of several kinds and regular visit to my dermatologist. No oral meds.
Yeah my doctor said pag ayaw talaga sa oral / topical stuff, injection na! Which I hope will REALLY help =\ I’ve found that my pimples clear up quick when I don’t take dairy. As for this current skin problem of mine I don’t know why it’s here :c really. I’ll just keep fighting and hope it’ll go away soon.
Have to be patient when it comes to skin problems. Have to have maintenance medicines or solutions especially when the problem is genetic. Also, avoid eating buttered dishes. It worsens the situation. Regular exercise gives glow to skin too.
Thanks for reminding me to be patient! Yeah… it hasn’t been a week. I guess I was just excited to see results right away. Thanks for the advice :)
Looks like I’ve reaffirmed that medicine is nothing more than trial-and-error. :c Oh well… it’s all a learning experience. I’m still glad not to be alone in figuring this one out. I hope I’ll be clear soon.
To recap: I am on day 5 of oral antibiotics, topical antibiotic, and topical steroid. And, day 3 of oral steroids.
I’ve noticed 3 signs of it getting worse and 1 sign that it’s getting better. Hmm. Have already been to doctor twice this week and thinking if I should come in again today…
UPDATE: Went to derma again today. She seemed surprised and puzzled that I hadn’t healed yet (oh no, that’s not a good sign!) :c She said I might be reacting to the topical stuff so she said to stop that first and just use saltwater 2x a day.
So I just did the saltwater thing. It is… not pleasant.
